Back in the day of ancient Greeks, writers like Homer would write about how sailors would search for terra firma, or solid ground. It meant that folks that had been away from home or lost at sea could find stability. It meant nourishment and that their basic needs could be met. It meant being, finally, in a safe place.
At Terra Firma Therapy, I seek to provide a place of solid ground and safe harbor to address the struggles of being a human. It can be hard just existing, let alone learning to navigate relationships, trauma, losses, deaths, break-ups, stressful jobs, parenting, depression, anxiety, etc. I offer therapeutic services to help folks find their way again back to themselves, or their relationships, or their sense of purpose.
Margo DeCuir, M.S., LMFT founded Terra Firma Therapy in 2020 with a passion for working with those with attachment injuries. Margo started working in counseling at Strength United working in the Adoption and Promotion Support Services program. There she began to see how family systems work, government systems, and child development could come together to support healing for children who underwent substantial trauma. She began to learn advocacy, develop rapport with government agencies, and to assist children, adults, and families in getting their needs met with each other and within communities. Margo has gone on to work extensively with families of color, transracial families, LGBTQ+ children and adults, individuals suffering from attachment trauma, and leaving cults. She provided attachment-based, trauma-informed services, meaning she meets clients where they are at and what their definition of safety is first, and then uses the therapeutic relationship itself to develop healing, insight, and empowerment.
